Leading a sound performance by East Grinstead shooters, Andy Meyers confirmed his recently achieved title of Sussex County Small-Bore Rifle Short Range Champion with a win in Class A at the East Grinstead Target Shooting Club's long range Spring Open Shoot over the weekend. His score of 781 ex 800 was just one point ahead of Russell French of Chichester. He also won the Class A Open Dewar with a score of 395 ex 400. Partnered with Malcolm Brain of East Grinstead, Meyers was joint winner of the Open Pairs competition.
In a separate meeting over the weekend he also bagged the City of London short range short range championship.
In cold but bright conditions over 40 competitors from clubs in the South turned in some good performances with East Grinstead shooters taking a good share of the medals. In his first Open Shoot competition junior Nicholas Humphries won the Class D Open Dewar match, plus best 40 shots at 50 metres and the Junior Dewar FA Anderson Trophy. Trevor Wilde of East Grinstead was the overall Winner of Class D just one point ahead at 731 and was also joint winner of the C & D Open Pairs with Geoff Gilbert. Trevor Wilde also won Class D best 40 shots at 100 yards. Class C was won by Michael Mercer of Addiscombe and Class B by Peter Francis of Carshalton. The Ladies Dewar was won by Sue Thomas of Uckfield Home Guard, who also won the team of three competition with husband Geoff Thomas and Linda Smallbone of Eastbourne.
